An Artificial Intelligence That Works Locally on Your GPU Without Internet Access

NVIDIA has officially launched Project G-Assist—an experimental AI assistant for GeForce RTX graphics card users. The new feature is available through the NVIDIA App and runs on PCs equipped with RTX 30, 40, and 50 series GPUs, requiring at least 12GB of VRAM. Laptop support is expected in future updates.

G-Assist is a local AI assistant that helps manage system settings, optimize gaming performance, monitor temperatures and component load, and configure peripherals—all through voice or text commands. Unlike cloud-based solutions, G-Assist works entirely offline, utilizing GPU resources without requiring an internet connection.

How It Works

The assistant is powered by a compact language model based on Llama, optimized for local execution. When activated with the Alt+G shortcut, G-Assist temporarily uses a portion of the GPU’s processing power to complete a request before returning the resources to the primary task—such as gaming.

Features and Capabilities

  • Performance monitoring – Track GPU temperature, CPU usage, and memory load in real-time.
  • Game optimization – Adjust graphics settings for the best FPS-to-quality ratio.
  • Overclocking recommendations – Get AI-powered overclocking suggestions to improve performance.
  • Peripheral control – Adjust settings for devices from Logitech G, Corsair, MSI, and Nanoleaf, including RGB lighting and fan speeds.
  • Data export – Generate and export performance reports for fine-tuning system efficiency.

Plugin System for Custom Features

One of the most exciting aspects of G-Assist is its plugin module. NVIDIA has released developer tools on GitHub, allowing users to create custom G-Assist extensions using JSON configurations and simple Python scripts.

This enables additional functionalities, such as:

  • Voice-controlled Spotify playback
  • Real-time Twitch stream tracking
  • Integration with Google Gemini for advanced dialogue and web searches

Part of NVIDIA’s Broader AI Strategy

NVIDIA emphasizes that G-Assist is part of the larger RTX AI initiative, which also powers NVIDIA ACE technology. Major partners, including MSI, HP, and Logitech, are already developing their own AI assistants based on NVIDIA’s solutions.

Integration with low-code platforms like CrewAI and LangFlow opens up further possibilities, allowing users to build automated workflows and custom UI interfaces without programming skills.

Availability

Project G-Assist is available for download now via the Home → Discovery tab in the NVIDIA App. Only desktop GeForce RTX GPUs and English language support are available at launch. NVIDIA promises regular updates with new features based on user feedback.
