Trump Pardons Convicted Silk Road Darknet Marketplace Founder
US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order pardoning Silk Road marketplace founder and administrator Ross Ulbricht. The head of the White House announced this on his page on the Truth Social social network.
“I just called the mother of Ross William Ulbricht to let her know that in her honor, and in honor of the libertarian movement that supported me, I am pleased to sign a full and unconditional pardon for her son Ross,” Trump wrote (quoted by RIA Novosti).
Ulbricht, also known as the “Dread Pirate Roberts,” was arrested in October 2013 at a San Francisco public library. He was charged with drug trafficking, computer hacking, and money laundering. In 2015, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a guilty verdict by a jury.
